UIC GENDER AND SEXUALITY CENTER (GSC)

2020 - 2021

The Gender & Sexuality Center (GSC)  is a resource center within the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC) for the LGBTQIA+ community. The projects within this section consist of social media marketing, website design, as well program designs for UIC's Lavender Graduation, the GSC Ambassador Program, and management of the GSC's Navigating Allyship workshop.

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING

POSTER DESIGNS

One of my primary roles at the GSC was the social media and marketing designs throughout the semesters. These would consist of GSC lead events, major days in the year, and informational posts like hours and job postings.

For posters that require more information like the major days, I would research the following information from credible sources on behalf of the GSC: what the day is about, important facts, how to show support, and other resources or organizations people can go to. These posters are then uploaded onto social media, added to the GSC website and newsletter, as well as submitted to other UIC calendars so other centers are informed.

Personally helped develop and brand the GSC's "Affinity Discussion Groups" (ADG). My contribution consisted of designing the logo, programming posters, social media marketing, and administrative duties for registration, surveys,

and Zoom meetings for each group and their specific dates.

Affinity Discussion Groups are intentional spaces for UIC students who identify within the different LGBTQIA+ spectrums to come together virtually to create a community and dialogue with one another throughout the semester.

Affinity Groups:

QTBIPOC: Queer & Trans Black, Indigenous, People of Color

TGNCNB: Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, Genderqueer, Non-Binary

ACE & ARO: Asexual and Aromantic spectrums

LAVENDER GRADUATION
(2021)

Lavender Graduation is a celebration of the academic and personal achievements of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual + (LGBTQIA+) graduating students and their supportive communities.

I was tasked with the design of the graduation presentation for the virtual ceremony, as well as social media postings.

GSC AMBASSADORS

GSC Ambassadors is a student leadership program facilitated by GSC associate director Moises Villada that included bi-weekly workshops with six amazing students who unpacked what it means to be an LGBTQIA+ leader; learned about multiple, intersecting identities; were welcomed into a supportive environment; and built community.

Tasks include social media postings announcing the GSC Ambassadors and designing the certificates.

GSC ANNUAL REPORT

(2020-2021)

Was given the task of compiling data and designing the 2020 - 2021 GSC Annual Report. This was a long running project that I would work on while multi-tasking other projects at the GSC.

The criteria given to me is that it should be colorful, playful, and informational. As well as a square dimension in order to be uploaded onto social media at a later date.

Below are some highlight pages from the GSC Annual Report.

GSC ANNUAL REPORT

(2021-2022)

Was given the task of compiling data and designing the 2021 - 2022 GSC Annual Report. Because of my contract ending soon, this is the draft that I came up with. Information is not final and layouts may seem empty due to this.

GSC NEWSLETTER

Another long-term project was managing the weekly GSC Newsletter. Tasks included compiling information for events opportunities (jobs, scholarships, volunteer programs), and current events (news). Designing the header and footer for the different semesters, and managing the subscription form design as well as manually adding or removing subscribers.

GSC COMMUNITY RESOURCE GUIDE

In order to make resources more accessible to students, faculty, staff, and alumni during COVID, I took it upon myself to research, update, and design multiple resource guides to be made available online.

This is my redesigned/updated version of the GSC's original Community Resource Guide. It lists different Chicago and National based resources for a variety of needs such as healthcare, workshops, housing support, therapy and counseling, and more.
